Paul O’Connell, PE

Principal, President

Paul O’Connell was introduced to the field of electrical engineering as a child when he visited the engineering firm where his mother worked. Naturally drawn to math and science throughout grade school and high school, engineering seemed the obvious career choice, which led him to the University of California at Davis, where he graduated with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. When he joined Cammisa + Wipf, his attention to detail was a perfect fit, and he has been designing systems here for 22 years.

Paul likes the challenges and complexities inherent in designing for healthcare facilities, such as continually advancing technologies, complicated code requirements, and the OSHPD (Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development) review process. Paul attributes Cammisa + Wipf’s ability to accelerate OSHPD approval to their reputation with plan reviewers and field inspectors, for a deep understanding of code requirements, and for a proactive and detailed approach to design.

Paul’s passion for what he does is in seeing the end result of his work and hearing the positive response from hospital staff including doctors, nurses, and maintenance personnel for the new work environment or systems that have been created. Even more gratifying is the knowledge that these projects help create the highest level of patient care available.

Paul is a professional member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
